People of the Gym....

Have you heard of the people of Wal-Mart website?  If not, and you are up for a good chuckle, you should check it out.  I think there needs to be a similar site called People of the Gym.  I've seen stories on twitter and online.  I go to our small work gym so I don't see all the crazies that others do, but I noticed a few things today and I was running on the treadmill.

First of all, the clothes people wear to the gym sometimes.  One lady was wearing sweat pants and a shirt I would wear to work (business casual dress).  Another lady didn't even change her clothes and was working out on the elliptical.  I would hate to be her poor co-workers when she goes back to work.  Speaking of that...what is up with the people that go to the gym in the middle of the day and don't shower?  Seriously - gross!  The people around you don't want to smell you, and how can you be comfortable in your own stank the rest of the day?

Every time I go to the gym and all of us are running/jogging along on the treadmills, I feel like I am a part of the Wall E movie.  You know, where all the people go through life on chairs? Or I feel like we are just a bunch of hamsters in our wheels for some larger power in space - kind of like Horton Hears a Who..

Yes, these are the kinds of things that start to run through my mind about halfway through my treadmill working.  I get so bored and my mind starts to wander.  Or I try to sneak a peak at the people beside me to see how fast they are going - usually faster than me.  I have music and bring my kindle but that only keeps me entertained for a little while.

Can't wait until the weather gets a little better and I can head back outside.

THAT is 10 calories?!?!

After lunch I always want something more - usually something sweet.  Yesterday to try to satisfy it, I grabbed a life saver to see if that would cut it.  Just one little, round, fruit flavored life saver - then I faithfully logged it onto MyFitnessPal for the day.  And it came back as 10 calories.  For that little thing?? No friggin' way!  I know it isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but not how I want to use up 10 calories of my day.

That brings me to another thought.  Did you know gum has calories?  I've always tried to figure that one isn't like I swallow it, right?

You can do anything you set your mind to

I have always known that when I set my mind to something, I can do it.  This applies to healthy eating and exercise too...the problem is, I don't set my mind to it for very long- usually.  So I need to make the most of it while I am determined to follow through.

This is the mind set I am in right now.  Last week I met my goal of exercising 3 days and completing the first week of the Couch to 10k program.  CHECK!

This week, I have decided to start watching what I eat more.  I'm not striving to be perfect at this point, but I want to do better.  To help with this, I have started tracking what I eat - again.  And I did pretty darn well today!

Now to just make sure I don't eat anything else tonight.  Eating after I put my boys to bed has been a issue for me for a long time.  To avoid this tonight, I am writing this post and then heading to bed.

I have my gym bag packed to start week 2 of Couch to 10k tomorrow.  With the absolutely ridiculous temps right now, warming up with a nice run on the treadmill sounds like a wonderful lunch break.  I also already have my lunch and snacks packed for tomorrow.  And dinner will go in the slow cooker in the morning.

I'm also starting a 30 day push up challenge.  One thing I miss from the Power 90 program was the definition I was just starting to see in my arms.  Maybe this will help.  Maybe I'll do this month on my knees and next month I'll be able to do it on my toes...hmmmm....

One week down

My first week is in the books - and I did as little as possible while still meeting my goals.  I completed the first week of the Couch to 10k program, running about 5 miles on the treadmill. Only 12 more weeks to go!  If I stay on schedule and don't have to repeat any weeks, I will be done in plenty of time for my first 5k of the year, which is April 13th.  There is also a marathon relay that weekend if I wanted to really push my limits, but I'm not so sure about that - plus there is the task of finding a team.  This 5k is kind of a sentimental race for me because it was the first one I ever attempted to run how many years ago.  Not sure I want to stop that tradition.  It got flooded out last year, so I really want to run it this year.  Plus, I should be able to kill my best time, right?

My diet has been awful this week - I know that wasn't a focus and I have completely taken advantage of it.  This week, I'm going to make it more of a focus, but I don't want to overdue it.  Little steps or I will abandon it all.

Goals for this week:

Run 3x - complete Week 2 of Couch to 10k
Drink Shakeology every day this week.
Bring my lunch to work, and eat it, at least 3 days this week

No changes in my weight, which I didn't expect - just glad it didn't go up!
